that I started at Starry Night Retreat is finally finished. I was hoping I would have all the furniture made and be a able to create and photograph tableaus for RISDCraft, but there has been no time. Maybe later this winter. This piece is painted just like the cabinets in my kitchen in our first house in Michigan.
Denim research....
on google led me to these wonderful sculptures by artist Anne Wolf. I desperately want to hold one. Please take a look at her website, you won't be disappointed.
Denim and Diamonds....
Is the theme for the Rochester Art Center Artbash 2015...and artists are donating works made with denim.
This is Snorm the Sensitive. He is from a long line of denim dome monsters. Yes, his teeth look fierce, but he is more interested in thoughtful conversation than tearing you apart. Don't let his crazy eyes scare you...there is a docile, deeply sweet creature behind. He can be yours on October 23, 2015.
This is....
Dandelion, my new ginger kitty. In addition to my other new ginger kitty, Tilter. In addition to the other cat I already had, Rocky. I officially lost my senses after Bug died, and now I have three cats. Lord help me.
RISD Craft...
Is one of the next things on my calendar. It is an annual alumni/student sale during Parents Weekend at the Rhode Island School of Design in Providence, RI. I loved going to it and seeing all the work when I was a student. This year, it was juried, and the college provides tables and a tent should it rain, so you don't have to have a booth to apply with. I've been curious about art fairs, and this one has a built in audience, so I applied. And I am going. I'm pretty excited. I will take the sewing dolls, animal dolls and some of my MFA dolls. I am also going to make some prints of photographs I have made of the dolls...I had hoped to make new ones with the new doll furniture and environments, but there is just not time. So I am starting to think about hang tags, plastic sleeves, a tablecloth, postcards...what my brand should look like. I've got a month to do it. The sale is one day only, Saturday, October 10 from 10 am - 5 pm. If you are in the area, please come out and see me! If you can't make it to the sale, you can check out the artist spotlight to see what you'll miss.
september, seriously?
Things have been nuts. There has been no time. My classes started, my son's school hasn't. I made a trip to my mom's in California with my son and mules were ridden. I installed my piece "Ligatures" at Artistry in Bloomington, and a week later I attended the reception. The exhibition is titled "It's Personal" and I am showing with Paula Barkmeier. The city of Bloomington's communication specialist produced this short video on the exhibition if you would like to take a look: "It's Personal."
so close....
But I will have to finish it at home. I can tell the ball joints are going to be really fussy. I have to cut the clay off and remove the center so it is hollow, then glue a guide wire inside and add two small holes for the elastic to pass through. I am a little nervous that the joints aren't big enough for all that, but we will see. I will need to paper all the parts before I assemble it, but can paint the body once it is together. If this works, I will have to figure out ball joints at the wrist and ankles, and maybe a bigger figure.
out walking....
and I came across this great property wall. The front end of this creature was on the left side of the gate, and the back end on the right. And someone was playing a guitar inside while I walked by.
