I have been organizing images, artist statements and proposals in a big push to get some applications out to galleries and calls. I have just a couple more to finish and then I am ready to start on the next big project: an installation in a small window space at the Minnesota Center for Book Arts. I am really excited. I am starting to research mold making and see some alginate in my future....

in Inspiration
the most amazing exhibition at the Minnesota Textile Center. "Woman Troubles" are a series of embroidered images on dyed silk that are unbelievably lovely. And they are images of used maxi pads...worn, bloody, squished maxi pads. Jess machine embroiders patterns of rich color, soft texture and wonderfully individual images that made me rethink what I see as beauty in relation to my own body. Unfortunately, she does not yet have these images on her website, so I am including some from a different body of work titled "Look and Learn, Little Girl" that are just as beautiful.
a new start....
it's subtle, but I stitched on the inter facing before fusing the paper. We will see what it does as I start adding more on the surface.
with this one, I drew the numbers in ball point pen and then fused the paper to the interfacing, layering more pattern paper on top. There is some potential here, but I am not sure I like how the paper starts to bubble with more and more layers. I think I am going to stretch at least one of these across stretcher bars and place it in a natural frame to see how it compares to the raw edged pieces from Stitch and Rend.
it's been awhile....
since I have made anything. I'm starting to get the shakes. Between prepping for school, traveling and commuting, there hasn't been much time left. I am waiting on a big box of work to come back from Maryland, and then I will be able to really assess the new flat pieces I made for the show. I am thinking about how I might make a frame I can stretch them across, but still have access to the the edges for stitching. And then a frame that the piece can be placed in so it can easily go on a wall. Looks like I need to start purchasing some power tools.
so lucky....
to have walked on the beach in Narragansett, Rhode Island, enjoyed clam chowder from Iggy's Roadside stand, visited with an old friend like no time had passed, and shared lunch with another who means the world to me. Thank you.

So it has been a funny week. I went out to Bel Air, MD for the closing of my show "Stitch and Rend" and all the related activities. I texted my friend my flight info and arrival time and promptly shut off my phone. When I arrived he was there waiting for me....confused...as the closing was actually scheduled two weeks from then. I managed to plan an entire trip around the wrong dates, even after I had mailed out all the invites! But I got a much needed rest....laying around on his couch watching Netflix while he was at school. So the exhibition is still hanging, but these are images of the new flat pieces I am excited about.
